Mike Sharp
Building Leaders. Throughout his 34-year career at Bank of America, Mike Sharp developed a strong reputation for attracting top talent, developing future leaders and cultivating high-performance teams.
In his first decade at the bank, Mike led various business units within the Operations Group. He then joined the Corporate Real Estate Division, where he held numerous executive management roles over the next 20+ years. As a Corporate Workplace Executive, Mike oversaw the development and execution of a worldwide real estate strategy for the bank’s Technology & Operations Group, managing over 20 million square feet of office space.
Mike was later selected as the Program Executive to lead the design, construction, and project management of the bank’s $800 million development in uptown Charlotte, comprising a high-rise office tower, a Five-Star Ritz-Carlton hotel, and a renovated retail venue in the bank’s global headquarters building. Later, as Retail Program Executive, Mike oversaw the design, construction, and project management of all the bank’s branches, ATMs, and retail renovation projects across the franchise.
However, the construction project that has brought Mike the greatest joy and sense of accomplishment over the years has been the building-up of leaders, where Mike has aimed to embody one of his most cherished leadership principles, courtesy of Teddy Roosevelt, “Nobody cares how much you know until they know how much you care.” Developing leaders has truly become the hallmark of Mike’s career . . . and his life. He will continue to pursue this passion well into his next season, both in his private consulting and nonprofit endeavors.
Lighthouse Consulting. As a lighthouse guides navigators through challenging seas, Mike founded Lighthouse Consulting to help leaders navigate challenging times, charting the course to a future marked by high purpose and performance excellence. Mike specializes in helping leaders craft vision, instill shared values organization-wide, establish challenging goals, track performance metrics, and rally teams to drive stellar results. Mike stresses the importance of creating a winning culture characterized by high integrity, teamwork, and trust, where customers matter greatly and leaders maintain a laser focus on developing their firm’s greatest asset . . . their people.
Stewards of the Game. Mike’s passion for mentoring and developing others goes beyond the business world. In 2001, he co-founded Stewards of the Game, a non-profit group that teaches faith-based life lessons through sports to over 1,000 youth annually. Stewards helps build strong character, cultivates healthy relationships, and encourages young people in their faith journey. Mike’s passion for youth sports outreach has taken him to Bolivia, Kenya, Nicaragua, and Zambia, where he led sports camps and clinics for impoverished youth as he and his fellow missionaries spread the hope of the gospel while teaching the fundamentals of the game.
LIFT 4:10. Mike recently founded LIFT 4:10, a non-profit mentoring organization that provides one-on-one sports training, life coaching, and academic tutoring to at-risk youth who have the desire, but lack the resources, to improve their game and their lives. LIFT 4:10, inspired by scripture verses in Ecclesiastes and James, matches at-risk youth with former coaches and players who are passionate about lifting-up young people and helping them discover and grow their God-given talents, enabling them to become the servant leaders of tomorrow.
Outreach and Family. Mike is active in campus outreach at his alma mater, Davidson College, where he majored in Economics and played varsity football and baseball. He currently serves as a guest speaker and mentor to Davidson College student-athletes. As a ministry partner at Lake Forest Church, Mike teaches elementary kids in Sunday school and helps lead an adult community group. Mike and his family enjoy scuba diving, tennis, snow skiing, and many fun-filled activities on Lake Norman. He and his wife of 32 years, Teresa, reside in Mooresville, North Carolina. Mike and Teresa have two adult sons, David and Nathan.
