Mike’s 30+ career in the investment business includes his current role as the president and founder of Willingdon Wealth Management, a Huntersville-based investment advisory firm.  Mike has developed the“we are 5th business philosophy within his firm, meaning each member of the firm focuses on faith, serving family, clients, and teammates, before himself.

Mike earned his BBA from St. Bonaventure University in 1981 and his MBA from the University of Michigan in 1983. He is a CFA and a member of the North Carolina Society of Financial Analysts.

Community Service

Sports have always been a big part of Mike’s life.  His core values were forged during a lifetime of athletic competition.  He is the co-founder of Stewards of the Game and directed the basketball operations for the organization’s first 11 years.  From 2008 – 2012 he served as the first Athletic Director and Head Basketball Coach at the Community School of Davidson in Davidson, NC

Mike is actively involved as a facilitator in the Life Applications Adult Sunday School class at Davidson United Methodist Church.  In addition, on Tuesday and Friday mornings he participates in and often leads two small men’s groups to study all aspects of spirituality and personal faith journeys.  The heartfelt conversations and close relationships developed in these study groups have been a blessing and helped formulate most of my spiritual writing, including my three devotional books.

Mike is the author of several books including: Coaching Youth Basketball with Faith and Fundamentals, Calling Tom Canning, My Most Meaningful Bible Verses, Eleven in Heaven, Life Lessons from Tom Taber, and The Lord’s Prayer, Slowly.

Mike and his wife, Mary Lynn have been married since 1986.  They have three children: Sean, Marlee, and Brennan.  Their cat Sweetpea and beloved dog Wrigley round out the home team.
